The red dot is one of the most renowned awards worldwide. It is a mark of quality for excellent design with far-reaching international acceptance. This year’s highest distinction for typography, the red dot: grand prix 2012 was awarded to Parachute® for the Regal Pro set of super families. According to the jury “this elegant typeface represents a highly successful solution to the task. Implemented to simultaneously support the Latin, Cyrillic and Greek alphabet, it not only exudes a modern and charming female appearance, but also surprises with an enormous variety of weights and glyphs”.
On 24 October 2012 the “red dot”, was held for the 20th time. This anniversary was celebrated with a glamorous gala and an exuberant party in the enchanting Konzerthaus in Berlin. Earlier this year, the winners and “best of the best” laureates were announced but it was not until the red dot gala that the winners of the “red dot: grand prix” were announced. Fifteen achievements, which set themselves apart as the best of their category, were granted with the top individual award of the competition.
Right after the red dot gala, the evening continued in the Alte Münze Berlin. During the party the exhibition “Design on stage – winners  red dot award: communication design 2012” was opened. After the ending of the Berlin exhibition the winning works will be touring the world. A selection of the works will be shown in the red dot design museum Essen. The second stop of the exhibition will be Basel, Switzerland in January 2013 and the final destination of the tour will be in the red dot design museum Singapore.
